Gibson Les Paul special 1959 Ex Elton John - Davey Johnstone

30000€

This 1959 Gibson Les Paul Special is far more than a rare vintage guitar — it is a true piece of rock history.

Previously owned by Davey Johnstone, the legendary guitarist and long-time musical partner of Sir Elton John for over fifty years, this instrument was played during one of the most important eras of his career. It notably took part in the recording of two landmark albums in popular music history: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player.

With its stripped-down design, raw character and iconic P-90 pickups, the Gibson Les Paul Special perfectly represents the late-1950s Gibson sound. In Davey Johnstone’s hands, this guitar helped shape tones that would go on to define an entire generation of recordings.

The provenance of this instrument is exceptionally well documented. We hold direct email correspondence with the artist, confirming his ownership of the guitar and its sale in 1976, a decision he reportedly made with regret. Such verified provenance significantly enhances both the historical and collectible value of this instrument.
