Gibson Les Paul Custom Gold Top True Historic 57

Sold

The True Historic series is one of those beautiful anomalies that have been dropped from the Gibson catalogue following the financial difficulties met by the brand in 2018. They are trying to make the Custom Shop catalogue easy to understand, therefore they only have kept the classic reissues, the R series (renamed Historic in 2016, not True though), but the real Les Paul lovers, for whom those guitars from the golden years represent a form of art in itself, are bound to be left wanting more. This is why the few True Historic guitars built between 2015 and 2018 are still very sought-after by smart collectors, who also know that such a rare and elite reference will only increase in value.

As the finish clearly shows, this is a True Historic 57, a reissue of the only year during which the Gold Top was equipped with humbuckers, after P90s in 1956 and before the sunburst finish in 1958. Since this is a True Historic, everything has been replicated to perfection, and those who have been lucky enough to get to play a vintage Gold Top will recognize the lightweight body, the big comfortable neck, the big resonance when played unplugged, the beautiful patterns in the mahogany and the realistic Gold Top. For many Les Pauls, including Custom Shop reissues, the Gold Top can be a problem: it may be too golden, too dull, too grey or too green. That Gold Top is the one we picture in our mind’s eye when we think of that legendary color, et in a few years it will show patina just like a great old one. And since the pickups are Custom Buckers, it is a safe bet that this True Historic 57 will also sound the part.
